Philosophy

Philosophy explores fundamental questions about the world and us and is therefore not restricted to any particular subject matter. It is the study of great thinkers and their ideas, ethical dilemmas of our time, and the construction of valid and sound arguments.

Pupils from Year 3 -6 have weekly sessions which are pupil-led but guided by a teacher. Sessions involve an activity to get the pupils thinking, such as a role play, a story, a sorting activity, or even a ‘simple’ question. This facilitates discussions about concepts which would normally be assumed or thought as right or wrong because it is what we have always been told. The pupils drive the conversation with their thoughts, questioning each other respectfully and refining their thinking.
