School Life Sport

A vibrant sporting culture within a holistic education

Sport plays an important role in school life at Ripley Court, supporting our aim to provide a balanced education while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.

Set within sixteen acres of beautiful grounds, our pupils benefit from excellent facilities including playing fields for football, rugby, and hockey, tennis and netball courts, cricket pitches, and a multi-purpose sports hall. Our indoor heated swimming pool allows children to swim throughout the year.

We also benefit from access to additional facilities at Reed’s School, including their hockey astro pitches, indoor cricket centre, and swimming pool.

We place a strong emphasis on enjoyment, encouraging children to develop a lifelong love of sport. Opportunities are carefully structured so that children can participate, compete, and progress at every stage.

Sport in Little Court Pre Prep

In Little Court, pupils enjoy regular physical activity through two hours of specialist led sessions, year-round swimming, yoga, and plenty of outdoor play.

Our youngest children take part in a wide range of activities designed to build coordination, confidence, and enjoyment. Events such as the Little Court inter house Swimming Gala and Cross Country are for Pre Prep pupils, while Sports Day includes Nursery children, encouraging participation and teamwork from the earliest years.

Our “Come and See Me Swim” mornings for Nursery and Reception provide a lovely opportunity for parents to watch and celebrate their children’s progress in the water.

Sport in Upper Court Prep

From Year 3 onwards, pupils take part in a broad and balanced programme that includes four hours of team games and practice sessions, PE, and weekly swimming throughout the year.

This includes a seasonal games programme:

Autumn Term
Football and Netball

Spring Term
Rugby and Hockey

Summer Term
Cricket

In addition to school provision, children benefit from enhanced coaching through our partnership with Reed’s School. Specialist coaches provide opportunities such as rugby sessions and occasional hockey masterclasses on Reed’s astro facilities.

After school swimming coaching is also available, with children grouped by ability to support their progress. Pupils showing particular promise may access advanced training at Reed’s pool in preparation for IAPS inter school competition.

Fixtures and Competition

We host regular fixtures against local schools in sports such as football, cricket, netball, hockey, and rugby. Matches are typically scheduled mid-week, with transport provided for away fixtures.

Where possible, pupils participate in co-educational fixtures, including cricket, football, and tag rugby.

Pupils also enjoy competing in our popular inter house events including:

  • Swimming Gala
  • Cross Country
  • Sports Day
  • Netball
  • Football
  • Aquathlon

These events foster school spirit, teamwork, and a healthy sense of competition.

Extending Opportunity

Alongside curriculum sport, a wide range of clubs provide additional opportunities for children to develop their skills and pursue their interests before, during, and after the school day.

Our extensive grounds, strong partnerships, and inclusive approach ensure that sport at Ripley Court is accessible, enjoyable, and inspiring for every child.
