School Life Pastoral Care

Where every child is known, valued and supported

We believe happy children thrive, growing in confidence, curiosity and independence from Nursery through to Prep. At the heart of Ripley Court is a nurturing family atmosphere where every child is truly known as an individual. We take time to understand each child’s personality, strengths and needs, ensuring they feel safe, happy and confident. Small class sizes and strong relationships between pupils and staff mean we can provide the right balance of encouragement, challenge and support at every stage. Because we know our pupils so well, we can recognise when something isn’t quite right and provide support quickly, often before small worries become bigger challenges.

Our exceptional pastoral care was recognised in our most recent ISI inspection, reflecting our commitment to ensuring every child feels secure, happy and able to flourish.

Children quickly develop a strong sense of belonging, forming friendships across year groups and becoming part of one supportive school community from their very first day. Every transition, from joining Nursery to moving into Prep and preparing for senior school, is carefully supported so children feel confident and excited for what comes next.

We celebrate the uniqueness of every child and encourage our pupils to become confident, inquisitive and compassionate learners who embody our values of Perseverance, Aspiration, Curiosity and Kindness. Together with our everyday expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Safe, these principles shape school life, fostering resilience, independence and mutual respect.

Supporting Every Child

Where every child has someone to turn to

The wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. Every member of staff plays an active role in supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, creating a culture where pupils know there is always someone they can turn to.

Form Teachers are trusted adults who know each child well, while our dedicated ELSA specialists in both Pre-Prep and Prep provide additional emotional literacy support whenever it is needed. We believe the strongest outcomes come from working in close partnership with families, and open communication between home and school ensures every child receives the care and encouragement they need to flourish.

Children are encouraged to express how they are feeling in age-appropriate ways and to ask for help whenever they need it. Through initiatives such as Bubble Time, the Worry Monster, Wellbeing Walks and weekly Mindfulness Assemblies, pupils develop emotional awareness, resilience and confidence in their own voice.

Belonging and Wellbeing

Where every child feels part of something special

A strong sense of belonging is woven into daily life at Ripley Court. Our Buddy Time programme brings children together across year groups through shared lunches, reading activities and whole-school events, helping younger pupils feel supported while giving older children valuable leadership opportunities.

As children grow through the school, they are encouraged to take on increasing responsibility. Opportunities such as our Prefect roles, including Little Court Pre-Prep and Nursery Prefects, empower pupils to become positive role models, developing confidence, empathy and leadership while supporting younger members of our community.

Whether celebrating birthdays together at our monthly Birthday Tea with the Headmaster, representing their House in sport, music and creative challenges, or simply enjoying everyday moments with friends across the school, children feel part of a caring, inclusive community where everyone is valued and encouraged to contribute.

Growing with Confidence

Where happy children flourish

Our aim is simple: for every child to feel safe, supported and happy while developing the confidence to embrace new opportunities and the resilience to overcome challenges.

Within our warm, family-centred community, children know they are never facing difficulties alone. They are encouraged to take risks, discover their strengths, build meaningful relationships and develop the emotional confidence that will help them thrive throughout their time at Ripley Court, at senior school and beyond.
