About Us Reed’s School

A Partnership that Enriches Every Child’s Journey

On 31 October 2019, Ripley Court School merged with the Reed’s School Charitable Foundation, marking a significant chapter in our story as an independent co-educational preparatory school in Surrey. Reed’s School, a leading independent day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 11 to 18, is located in nearby Cobham, just 5.7 miles away. For many years, Ripley Court pupils have chosen Reed’s School as their senior school destination, making the merger a natural progression of an already close and enduring relationship.

Both schools share a philosophy of education that focuses on nurturing the whole child and inspiring a love of learning. This shared vision creates a seamless pathway from our preparatory environment to senior school life.

Mark Hoskins, Headmaster of Reed’s, serves as Executive Head of both schools, guiding their strategic direction alongside the Board of Governors. At Ripley Court, Headmaster Gavin Ryan leads daily school life with the Senior Leadership Team and plays a key role in shaping our longer-term vision and continued growth.

Benefits for Pupils and Families

The closer partnership between Ripley Court and Reed’s has brought meaningful advantages to our pupils, enriching their education and strengthening our community.

Increased success in senior school applications
While entry to Reed’s is not automatic, and many pupils continue to choose other senior schools, the shared culture and educational approach mean Ripley Court pupils are exceptionally well prepared for Reed’s admissions process. Each year, Reed’s staff conduct practice interviews with our Year 6 pupils, and the close relationship between leadership teams ensures every applicant is known and supported as an individual. Between 2022 and 2025, 86 per cent of Ripley Court boys applying to Reed’s received offers.

Experience of senior school life

Each year, our Upper Court pupils, visit Reed’s for lessons and workshops that provide a genuine insight into senior school life. Recent highlights include participating in Year 7 Science lessons and enterprise workshops alongside Reed’s pupils. These visits are hugely valued by both schools, with Reed’s teachers always delighted to welcome Ripley Court pupils into their classrooms.

Access to specialist teaching and a broader curriculum

The partnership also enables pupils to benefit from specialist teachers working across both schools, enriching the breadth and depth of the curriculum on offer. This includes opportunities to study subjects such as Latin, alongside a wider range of specialist-taught disciplines, supporting curiosity, challenge, and academic confidence from an early age.

Shared creative and extra-curricular opportunities

Our pupils enjoy rich collaborative experiences across music, drama, and sport. Peripatetic music teachers and specialist sports coaches, including tennis, work across both schools, and joint productions provide wonderful opportunities for pupils to perform and create together. The spectacular 2025 concert at Fairfield Halls in Croydon, where the choirs of both schools performed side by side, is a memorable example of this flourishing partnership.

Enhanced curriculum planning

Senior leaders and teachers from both schools work closely to plan our curriculum, ensuring a smooth progression from preparatory to senior education. This collaboration focuses not only on academic knowledge but also on equipping pupils with essential skills such as digital literacy and effective learning habits.

Shared expertise and resources

By combining governance and support staff structures, both schools benefit from outstanding leadership and expert management in finance, compliance, and facilities. This collaboration has also provided exciting opportunities for recent gap year teaching assistants, many of whom are Old Reedonians, to contribute to life at Ripley Court.
