Head Of English

Head Of English

BA (HONS) UNIVERSITY OF KENT; PGCE INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION: UCL; QTS

Whilst studying English at university, Sophie decided that teaching was her calling. She started her teaching career in 2012, in Year 4, at a state school in Bromley. After specialising in children’s literature at the Institute of Education, Sophie knew that she wanted to lead an outstanding English department and pass on her passion for books and reading.

She became Literacy Coordinator and taught Year 6 as Form Teacher. After a final year as Year 3 Form Teacher, she moved to Blackheath Prep School, where she took on the role of Head of History and Year 3 Form Teacher. Appointed Head of English in 2018, Sophie also taught Year 5, where she spent three happy years preparing children for their 11+ examinations and overseeing an enthusiastic English department.

After nine years of teaching in South-East London, Sophie relocated to Hampshire in summer 2021, starting at Ripley Court in September as Head of English and Year 6 Form Teacher. She loves the job, the children and the school – particularly her Year 5-6 Book Club!

In her spare time, Sophie enjoys curling up with a good book, country walks with her husband and travelling to see friends and her family.
