Art, Music and Drama
Art is taught in classrooms in the younger years and in a purpose-built art room enjoying excellent light at the top of a recent building. All children take art as part of their curriculum, with the oldest five years taught by a specialist art teacher. In years 3 to 8 the children are taught in half-classes, timetabled against Food Technology.
Art is a very strong department and numbers of scholarships have been won in recent years, including no fewer than four in 2016!
A converted 18th century stable provides a charming theatre for all children to learn to act and perform. The school gym is regularly converted into a much bigger arena for some spectacular productions. In recent years Bugsy Malone, The Lion King and Grease have been performed to great acclaim. Famous now also are the "Ripley's Got Talent" contest, the summer Dance Extravaganza for Little Court, and the Middle School plays.
As with everything we do full participation by all is required, and as a result children learn confidence and presentation skills, clear diction and teamwork.
A strong department, which has a terrific new teaching studio in addition to use of the theatre and the music tuition rooms. Children all enjoy class music lessons where they sing and learn basic keyboard and composition skills. In addition, there is a team of approximately twelve peripatetic music teachers who provide individual instrumental tuition. Nearly all children have a go at learning an instrument, and the majority persevere for some time.
There are choirs, orchestras, ensembles and bands – and all children are encouraged to participate as much as possible.
The music department is proud of its record of competition in local Eisteddfods and in its success rate in Associated Board exams and in winning scholarships to senior schools.
