Awesome Book Awards evening

On Thursday 2nd May 6 pupils attended the Awesome Book Awards at Cranleigh School.

The Awesome Book Awards is a prize which celebrates the best new fiction authors for young readers aged between 7 and 10 and is an annual event.

In Miss Thomspon’s ‘Awesome Book Awards’ hobby, the children read the whole shortlist and then voted for their favourite overall. The shortlist included ‘Running on the Roof’ by Jess Butterworth, ‘Brightstorm’ by Vashti Hardy, ‘Being Miss Nobody’ by Tamsin Winter, and ‘The Ice Garden’ by Guy Jones, and ‘The Starman and Me’ by Sharon Cohen.

At the Awesome Book Awards ceremony, each author took to the stage to talk about their book and what inspired them to start writing. Once each author has discussed their books, the winner of the 2019 Awesome Book Awards was revealed – Well done Tamsin Winter! Tamsin was presented with her prize and trophy by last year’s winner, Peter Bunzl. During Tamsin’s speech, she said “Reading is the best thing you can do for your brain but also your heart.”

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed reading the books, participating in voting and attending the awards ceremony!
