'Phil' the Bag
Ripley Court School held their annual ‘Phil’ the Bag charity event on Wednesday 7th November.
Pupils, teachers and staff brought in bags full of unwanted items such as clothes, shoes and textiles in order to raise as much money as possible for their chosen charity.
The hardworking Years 7 and 8 pupils oversaw the collection and loading of the bags onto the ‘Phil’ the Bag van and counted them as they went. A total of 226 bags managed to squeeze into the van which will go off to get weighed, and the items in the bags will be sorted, sold and distributed to people in developing countries.
The pupils have been taking part in this project for several years and have already helped renovate and paint classrooms for children at Mtswayeli, Ngamo and Kapane Schools in Zimbabwe, an initiative driven by Imvelo Safaris Lodges. This year’s donation will help renovate and paint another classroom, as well as provide the pupils with more new school books.
A representative for Imvelo said “The Ripley school kids have been great supporters of Imvelo for many years and we’re so appreciative of their ongoing contributions to the Imvelo community programmes.”
