Year 6 visit Guildford Spike

PleaYear 6 enjoyed a fascinating trip to The Spike in Guildford to learn the gruesome truth about how the poor lived and worked in Victorian enter an introduction for your news story here.

The children learned how the forgotten classes survived in the Workhouses, how they came to be there in the first place and what their future held for them. They also got to see first-hand how the more ‘undesirable’ or ‘unfortunate’ individuals survived The Spike itself, by visiting the actual bathrooms, bedroom cells and waiting rooms that they lived in.
The children also heard the heartbreaking stories of four individuals; Jim, Sarah, Will and Tom, who were unfortunate enough to spend time there.
It was a truly fascinating visit for children and teachers alike and I think we all learnt a lot…..including how lucky we all are that so much has changed.
