At Ripley Court, we are very proud of our Food Technology facilities.
We designed and equipped the facilities ourselves, with fixed and mobile stations. We have a fantastic range of equipment so that we can focus on learning all the skills needed to be able to eat healthily for life.
By the end of Year 8, pupils are more than ready for the new GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition, should they choose to continue with this in their next school. We cook in every lesson, so we have time to look at how to make our products look appealing as well as taste good. We use a selection of sweet and savoury recipes so that pupils can cook both.
The children all learn about healthy eating and all know to limit sweet treats, but we feel it is important that treats are home-made rather than shop bought. We also learn about nutrients, the function of ingredients in recipes, sustainability and food miles.
From Years 3 to 8, pupils are taught by a specialist Food Technology teacher. Younger children use the food technology room with their class teachers. Needless to say, Food Technology is a very popular activity at Ripley Court.
