JUICING FUN AT THE ARK

ON TUESDAY 11TH OCTOBER THE ARK HAD A SPECIAL VISIT AND WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO MAKE THEIR VERY OWN FRESH APPLE JUICE.

Mr. and Mrs. Whiddett visited the Ark with their apple juice making equipment which included an impressive apple chopping machine and a sturdy wooden apple press. They also bought with them bags full of delicious home grown apples from their orchard.

The session started with apple picking, Mr. Whiddett used a large hook to pick the apples from an apple tree located right next the Ark. The children watched as apples fell to the ground, and once it was safe they eagerly collected them. The next step was the apple chopping and each child dropped their apples into the machine which quickly cut them into tiny pieces. Once a whole bucket full of chopped apple was collected, it was time to press the apples. In turn, each child happily gathered a big handful of the sticky chopped apples and dropped it into the press until it was full. Mr. Whiddett then placed the lid on the press and began turning the handle. Again the children took turns to twist the handle and as they did delicious fresh apple juice trickled into the bucket below the press. Finally it was time for the taste test! The verdict was fantastic and the children enthusiastically drank the fresh apple juice and even queued up for refills.

It was a lovely morning and we would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Whiddett for their generous time.
