Snow Update Saturday 9 Jan 2010

9th January 2010

From the Headmaster Saturday 9/1/10

Happy New Year all.

Having returned this afternoon from the slopes of Italy I realised that there was no hurry for me to pack away my skiing gear.

In my absence, the grounds staff have worked hard to clear paths around the school buildings and the school could run, carefully, from Monday (Staff) and Tuesday (Pupils).

However, there are three howevers.

However (1), Rose Lane has not been cleared at all as far as I can see and a smashed-up Ford Focus in the lay-by opposite the school is testament to the slippery conditions.

However, (2), there is more snow forecast for tonight and tomorrow. A significant fall would alter things considerably.

However, (3), the rear car park is heavily snowed under and would not be suitable for use at all. We do not have any way of clearing it, unfortunately.

It will all boill down to am matter of my estimate of the safety of travelling into the school for the staff and children, and I will have to be cautious.

I will leave a decision as late as possible, and we will clarion-call staff on Sunday and pupils on Monday/Tuesday morning. At this stage, though, barring a sudden heat-wave, a prompt start to the term would seem unlikely.

Please monitor this site regtularly for updates, and I hope to see you all as soon as possible.

Stay warm!

Andrew Gough
