Little Court (Pre-prep)
In the three years, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, children make the greatest progress – by the end of this time they can read and write, do simple sums, recite their tables and myriad other skills. In addition, the benefit of specialist teaching in French, music, dance, swimming and sport are particularly pronounced.
These are the most important year’s in a child’s education. Get these right – and the child is set up for the rest of their schooling and for life.
Reception
Here the children are formally taught to read and write, using traditional phonics methods. They are taught cursive script from square one.
The reception consists of two classes each containing of between twelve and eighteen children (we never go above eighteen!) There is a form teacher and a classroom assistant. Tuition also happens in other areas – geography, history, science and French and the children continue on the Foundation goals begun in the Nursery
Year 1 sees children with well developed reading and writing skills consolidate their gains. Year one is particularly important for gaining the basic skills of arithmetic.
Year 2 sees the children at the top of Little Court – with confidence in their new strengths very evident. They are more than ready for the jump into the Middle School.
