The Arts

The Arts are a vital part of school life at Ripley Court School. All our children learn to express themselves creatively in art, music, or drama.

ART

All children take Art as part of their curriculum. Children in Year’s 2 to 6 are taught by a specialist art teacher in a purpose-built art room which provides them with a genuine, creative environment.

The Art Department at Ripley Court School has a reputation for achieving a very high standard, and many Art scholarships have been awarded in recent years.

DRAMA

A converted 18th-century stable provides a charming theatre for all children to learn acting and performing skills. On occasions, the school gym is converted into a much bigger arena for some spectacular productions such as "Bugsy Malone", "The Lion King" and "We Will Rock You" which have all been performed to great acclaim in recent years. The "Ripley's Got Talent" contest and the summer Dance Extravaganza for Little Court, and the Upper School productions are now renowned Ripley Court productions!

As with everything we do, every child has the opportunity to participate. The LAMDA department is where children learn confidence and presentation skills, clear diction, and teamwork.

MUSIC

Music is very much part of the fabric of Ripley Court School.

In addition to the use of the theatre and the music tuition rooms, our Music department boasts a terrific teaching studio. All children enjoy class music lessons where they sing and learn basic keyboard and composition skills. There is also a team of approximately twelve peripatetic music teachers who provide individual instrumental tuition. Children can learn to play instruments such as the Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar (Acoustic and Electric) and Ukulele, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Cornet and Drums.

Nearly all children have a go at learning an instrument, and the majority persevere for some time.

There is also a Junior Choir, Senior Choir, wind ensemble, classic and contemporary singing, and a Rock Band – and all children are encouraged to participate as much as possible.

The music department has a strong track record of achievements in local Eisteddfods and Associated Board exams and in winning scholarships to senior schools.

LAMDA

LAMDA tuition is available to all pupils in Years 2 to 6 at Ripley Court, and examinations in Acting, Verse & Prose and Public Speaking are offered at all levels, not just for those with a penchant for drama and performance.

Lessons are highly personalised and focused on the individual, with some teaching in pairs or small groups, enabling us to ensure the best possible outcomes and sustained progress through the grades.

Through studying towards LAMDA examinations, students develop their potential as young performers and public speakers, gain confidence and learn new skills which will benefit them across their studies in years to come.
